Back to Blogging. And Cookies

Thanks to all of you who expressed such dear thoughts and concerns for my mom and my family. My sister read all of your comments to Mom, and she was touched.

She has been moved from the hospital to a care center, where she can get physical therapy, wear real clothes and interact with other residents, many of whom she knows from her small northern Minnesota community. Her recovery is slow but still pretty amazing for a 93 year old woman who had two strokes, then lay for six hours on the floor of her room before being discovered. Yes, that's the worst part of all this. It tears me up to think of it. Whatever happens with my darling mother, I am so thankful that she didn't die that way, and that so many friends and family have been able to visit her, to send her cards and letters, and surround her with love the past few weeks.

Now she is talking better, awake for longer periods, and getting adjusted to this new phase of her life. Again, many thanks to all of you who expressed your concern and said prayers in our behalf.

I just love this blogging community. I am so fortunate to be part of it.  What a wonderful friendship we can develop here. I'm inviting everyone to my house for cookies. Chocolate chip cookies-- all you can eat.

Each day I'm discovering how supportive the writing/blogging community can be. Just when I feel like hanging it all up, an encouraging word or an inspiring post can get me back on track in no time.

  5. Count me in with everyone else who is glad your mom is doing better! It made me sad to read about her stroke, because my grandmother had gone through that last year and I know it can be tough.

Sounds as though you are holding in there, so just keep on doing what you need to. And try to take comfort in knowing that you have a lot of people thinking about you. :)

  22. That is good news! Your mother must be an exceptionally strong person. In terms of recovery I think that getting out of nightwear or hospital garments and into your own clothing is a psychological boost.

Hope you are taking care of yourself too. Watching and worrying over a loved one is very draining.

Yes, I'd love a chocolate chip cookie, thank you!

  25. Karen, I'm so glad she is recovering and especially that she is someplace more comfortable where she can have both some social interaction and the supervision that will keep her safe as she gets back toward being more herself.

Be sure to buy some marshmallow fluff to put between cookies for cookie sandwiches!

  31. Wonderful news about your mother. May she continue to make a speedy and good recovery.

I couldn't agree with you more about the blogging (and Twitter) communities. They are both incredibly supportive and filled with lovely people I'm very happy and lucky to have met. And to think I might have missed out on you and them all in real life. *shudders* Doesn't bear thinking about, so I'll have just the one cookie to take my mind of that awful thought...
