Goals? Sure, I got it covered

My three challenges for the year were to

1) read 50 books or approx. a book a week

2) walk 30 minutes a day and

3) write (creative, not blogging or journaling) for 30 minutes a day.

Can you guess how I'm doing?

1) I'll get through the 50 books in less than 6 months at this rate. Give me permission to read and I won't do anything else.

2) Maybe I should start by walking 30 minutes once a week?

3) Does writing for five days straight, about 10 hours a day count? And then not writing for the rest of the time?

Note to self: Never mind those goals, try these:

* Continue eating junk food, only stop when you're full.

* Blog and Twitter daily while ignoring Facebook.

* Finish House of Diamonds sometime this year.

* Stare into space for a minimum of 2 hours a day. Call this writing.

* Cheer and offer enthusiastic congratulations when a bloggie friend gets an agent, a publishing contract or any kind of book success. Or writes a really good post.

* Lose three pounds by next Christmas.

  2. I think your list is reasonable, but your last list is much more fun.

How many times may I lose and gain these same 3 pounds this year?

  3. I like evolving goals. I write out new ones each month, depending on what I need to get done. I never make reading novels a goal for the reason you stated above. I wouldn't get anything else done.

  4. You can do it! Just do the best you can, and soon you'll be tackling those challenges in no time.

  5. I say don't make goals! Just go with the flow. That's what I'm doing. If I come up with a list that really works, I'll shout it through bloggerland!

  6. Journaling and blogging are good in that they allow you to write down what you're feeling and thinking. And bloging gives you the opportunity to "meet" other bloggers. But I can relate to your goal of writing (not blogging or journaling), especially because blogging and journaling can be very distracting. But in a fun way.

  7. Or how about don't focus on the goals, focus on the moment! You are doing just fine. :)

  10. "Stare into space for a minimum of 2 hours a day. Call this writing."

Oddly enough, this has been my writing process on occassion...

  11. Read on the treadmill...kill two birds with one stone! Of course, I'm rather fond of your last set of resolutions - eat junk food and stare into space. I've had a great year so far based on that adjusted criteria!

  14. Oh, Karen! I have similar goals but I'm struggling on the exercise one as well. My writing is going great! I write/edit everyday. I have to or else it's impossible to start again. I read like mad. I try to read indie authors and join challenges.

  15. Hat! Great goals:). If you really want to add exercising to the mix, you could always buy a treadmill and read while walking on it (it's what I always say I'll do to get more exercise). But then again, you seem to be doing pretty good by yourself.

  16. There's nothing wrong with amending goals (especially when there's junk food involved). Sounds like you're off to a great start with the reading. Remember, it's only February. There's plenty of 2011 left :)

  17. Ha! The second list sounds like goals even I could reach :)

  18. HA! The February re-eval! I recognize this monster! I haven't been walking (or eating) like I should either. I have decided to solidly commit when the snow melts.

  19. I really need an exercise program. I didn't include one in my goals because it would be an auto-fail. Sigh. Where are the cookies?
