Taking on the Challenge, do you have a theme?

I finally decided to go with a theme for the A to Z Challenge. Since my blog is about writing, editing and publishing issues, that's what I'll post about. They will be short literary definitions from A to Z. There is even a literary term that starts with Z.

And look at this, I'm already practicing up on keeping my posts short. I am also practicing up on toning down the exclamation points. It's killing me. This post had several but I took them out. Gah! Ok, I put one back in.

  1. I also have a theme, for both of my blogs... I already have most of them prescheduled! I can't wait to go blog-trotting throughout the challenge! :)

  2. LOL- I don't know that mine is themed quite the same- I'm going to keep my riddle Fridays, because they are short, but I will be writing- I have a few flash fiction things I have done to put in A-Z. I want to keep mine writing related.

  3. That's really cool! I don't have a theme but I will post the letter of my current daily themes. Blah, that doesn't make any sense.

  4. Learning to write without exclamation marks is a whole other challenge!
I hadn't thought about a theme but I was hoping to keep on with my Mon/Tues regular memes.

  5. Brilliant theme, Karen - this former English student looks forward to having her memory refreshed!

I'm pondering themes myself. I was going to post a paragraph of short fiction every day but I want to deviate from that at least twice - can it be a pattern if you keep breaking from it? :)

  6. Thanks for stopping by my blog!

I've been pondering themes as well--I guess I need to make some decisions soon!

  7. Hooray for you and those who have a theme. I thought of one, but I probably won't follow through. I don't think it matters. Knowing the blogger community, I'm certain that all the definitions are going to be VERY interesting. (I think I need to tone down, too (LOL), on exclamation points, my daughter's favorite thing, though you do notice that I full-capped the word very.)

  8. I'll be looking forward to this as you write very well on the topic of publishing.

  9. I can't wait to see what awesome things you come up with on the challenge Karen! =D

  10. Hi,

Yeah, the theme is literature/publishing orientated and occasional bit of fun: totally off-the-cuff each day!

  11. Great theme, I can't wait! Oy, maybe I should cut back on exclamation marks too? haha I haven't decided on a theme, as I only signed up about 12 hours ago, but I was thinking literary-related too...a combination of reading and writing, but I'm not sure. Have to give it some serious thought before Friday!

  12. My posts are going to be writing related, some probably less closely than others. I have a brainstorming list of topic ideas and this week I'm planning on getting some of the posts scheduled.

  13. I look forward to reading your posts. I'm doing my normal schedule plus adding things for the other days, so no real theme this year. Next year I'm already considering a theme. :)

  14. I haven't exactly got a theme but the posts are all writing/reading related in some way. Oh, and they're short!!!!! (Oops, just getting the exclamation marks out of my system).

  27. Gah! indeed. i'm posting inspirational quotes for each letter of the alphabet. and rather than try to search and search for a topic to go with Z, i'm doing Dr. Seuss quotes that day.

  28. It's going to be hard for me to not write long posts. I tend to be overly verbose :D But I'll give it a shot.

And I am not planning anything.

  29. Looks like you're definitely getting into the spirit of it, Karen.

  31. I'm doing the same challenge! :)

I also have a problem with exclamation points. I use them WAY too much. That and all caps. ;)

  32. A theme, nice idea! Look forward to reading your posts. I was tempted to use a ! at the end of the last sentence LOL!

  33. Count down time. On your mark......Are exclamation marks out? I just started using them. Always a day late.... !!!!!! Ha Love em, though. What the heck, I'm never "in" anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Does it count as a theme if it is what you are thinking at the time? I am thinking food, but that may not last.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Haven't got a theme. I'm just writing about stuff that means a lot to me. Looking forward to it.

  36. literary term that starts with Z....Now I have to wait a month to figure out what it is!

  37. 'I am also practicing up on toning down the exclamation points. It's killing me. This post had several but I took them out. Gah! Ok, I put one back in.'

    LOL!

Hi - I'm new to the A to Z Challenge and I'm popping by a few blogs on the linky list to meet up in anticipation for all the fun. My arts blog already has a set schedule so I'm fitting the letters into that - Poetry Monday / Arts Tuesday / Photography Wednesday / List of 13 Thursday / Music Friday / Serialized original fiction Saturday.

  38. AHHH! It's so short! It hurts my eyes... hehe! Great job Karen! I'm so excited to start the fun!!! Let's do it already!!!!! :)

  39. This is such a great idea! I have no idea how much time I'll have in April (since I have not been organized enough to write and schedule posts for the entire month), but I'll definitely come back here and read your A-Z definitions - either next month or later. Good luck with the challenge! :)

  40. I'm really impressed with you all doing this. I won't be blogging myself but I'll definately be around reading and I'm looking forward to discovering some great new blogs.

  41. This will be my first A-Z challenge. Thank you for stopping by Writing with Debra and following. You have a great blog. I am following back.

  42. Yes, I have a theme - it is what I know about writing/creating art...and for E I'll talk about the use of exclamation marks. Just kidding. I think, because I hang out with a ton of adolescents, that I am allergic to using exclamation marks as they use them in speech along with the upward lilt of the nonsensical question. Whatever. ha.

  43. Hi Karen - new blogger/follower here. Love the giraffe, btw - is that the SD Wild Animal Park, or elsewhere?

You made me laugh about the exclamation points - one of my critique group buddies was so good at removing excess punctuation and unnecessary words we all joked he must be getting a nickel for every one he cut out.

    Looking forward to reading more.
