Blogger, you devil, you

I have considered setting up a Wordpress blog and leaving that mischievous trickster Blogger for good. Especially after it crashed on Wed eve and lost all those wonderful comments saying what you are not. That was fun reading. Then Blogger brought back my post and more lovely people left comments. So I am reconsidering my options.

I know I'm not alone in this, but I love comments!! And followers!! Which is why Blogger keeps me trapped in its clutches--I like how easy it is to set up and to attract followers and comments. When I visit a Wordpress blog, I really don't like all the blanks I have to fill in order to leave a comment. And many of them don't have a follower icon. Basically it boils down to ease of use, which Blogger has refined down to every detail.

There may come a time when leaving Blogger feels right to me, but until that day comes, I'm here to stay. I am not leaving you yet, Blogger, so you better not leave me first. Any problems in this relationship can hopefully be resolved, but just remember it's not me, it's you. So get your act together ok? And then we can have a long and happy relationship, which is what we both want, right?

  1. I couldn't agree more. Comments, followers, etc. Blogger has us by the you-know-what. ;)

  4. Pain, yes. But this is the first time I've seen this happen in a year. I guess something was bound to go wrong.

  5. I couldn't agree more. Word Press is not as user friendly as Blogger, IMHO. I have a hard time getting around on people's sites. Keep blogging, Karen and I'll keep reading. Take care.

  6. It's like I really don't mind Blogger having maintenance problems etc but did they really have to delete posts/comments?!?! That was just so mean of them to do!!

I'm just glad all is back to normal again! Yay!! Take care

  7. Hi Karen, you are so right..the Blogger blackout made me think about changing to Wordpress but only for a few seconds....Blogger is definitely more user friendly.
And we all love followers & comments, you sure are not alone in that!

  9. 'Twas frustrating indeed. Unlike you, though, as you know, I set up a WordPress blog. I think there's another kind of community/communities to reach through WP, so I'm going to see what happens. Yes, there's the comment thing. But I like the way you can reply beneath each comment. And it really doesn't take that much time. Your info will come up automatically when you type the first letter.

Like you, I'm still (also) staying on Blogger. Facebook is a good backup should blogger fold. (The Blogger design page STILL isn't working properly, at least for me--grrrr). Several bloggers have come to FB and followed me for that very reason: we don't want to lose the friends we've made through the Blogger community. They feel like family!

  10. Yes, it was a frustrating bit of the week... missed all my friends and opportune moments to share with everyone. By the time it came back up, so did all the working moments that draw me away...

  11. WordPress frightens me, lol! Unless Blogger really fails or does something awful, I'm sticking with them. I, too, love the ease of commenting etc.

  12. This is cute :) I'm sure Wordpress has its advantages, and people who use it love it, but I agree. As a follower, Blogger sites are easier for me to visit and comment on.

  13. Blogger stopped the world from spinning for a few hours there but I don't plan on jumping off anytime soon. I'm not a wordpress fan though I have a few friends who are.

  14. Well said! I thought I'd broken something. Weird things happen between me and technology! Gotta say I was pretty relieved when I realized it was a whole lot of people and not just me! :)

  15. Well, I set up a wordpress blog...to practice on and figured I'd have it in case I wanted to make the change. Blogger does make it easy to want to stay though...except when we have these glitches.

  16. I agree, what I like about Blogger is its ease of use. Pity I lost my comments though :( I'm still feeling the ache. :P

  17. I've heard that leaving blogger threat from a lot of people over the last few days. I never considered it. All technology is subject to glitches. Its the age we live in.

  18. I was not amused by Blogger either, but I have to admit, I'm not smart enough to use WordPress. :) I need something really super easy, and so I stick with Blogger.

  19. Hi Karen .. a comment from Blogger Admin - they use blogspot blogs too for their own personal lives .. so they felt hard hit! and understood our frustration ..

I lost your comment!!!! But I posted a copy across to my blog .. but I now publish from the blog - not from my email ...

Whether that will help - or whether all is well .. we shall see ..

I had 'slow' problems generally the last three months .. which now seem to be better - so there may have been issues with Google itself ..

Still seems to be fixed .. and someone said - change back to old editor, which I did, but when I rechecked .. 'Admin' had reset it for me?!

Cheers and enjoy the new house, new area etc etc .. Hilary

  20. The problems with blogger definitely made me re-think our relationship as well. Then I got a shiny Ipad2 and found that you can make Wordpress pages Ipad compatable and it lured me even further, but I'm commited to blogger like a troubled relationship. We may have our fights, but in the end I can't ignore it's good qualities.

  21. You've nailed why I haven't switched to Wordpress. As annoying as Blogger can be, it still seems to be the lesser of two evils. Guess I'll stick with it a while longer.

  22. I'm happy to hear you'll be here a bit longer. When you finally make the choice to move on, I'll follow you at WordPress as well. :)

  23. I know...it is so frustrating! I was just getting back into the water when the pool was drained!

  24. My thoughts exactly.
    Happy Monday!

  25. Totally agree. I considered wordpress but the thought over starting over and yes, I think Blogger is easily to navigate and comment through. *deep sigh* I hope it does sort out the tricksters! ;-)

  26. I think this was a one time thing. *hope* And no, I can't start over, (@Taliei) that just makes me tired to think about.

  27. Blogger crashed on me to last week. After a slight cussing fit it cam back a couple hours later. I know they are doing updates. Hang tight everyone. Now, if it happens tomorrow we have a problem lol.

  28. Kerri, And I love Blogger updates! That's what gave us the new Design feature, Stats and all kinds of cool things. Hoping for more good stuff from Blogger in the very near future!

  29. After my recent episodes with Blogger, I've thought seriously about Wordpress. But I've stayed with Blogger for the same reasons you mention!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Yeah I'vw stayed with Blogger too, Karen though tempted and almost pushed by some of my favourite commenters.
I lost a lot of helpful comments re a dream I had so feel your pain.

  31. In spite of the problems we all had with Blogger's latest glitch, and in spite of the other snags it's presented me, and probably everyone else, it's still worth the aggravation. For now.

  32. I'm still a newbie to blogging - and found even setting up on blogger traumatic! The thought of leaving - and for a provider that doesn't show followers is enough to drive me to panic. Seems it doesn't take long to get hooked on seeing that list of followers grow!

  33. I'm committed to Blogger. In the three years that I've blogged, I've had so few problems that it's been a great experience. I can't even fathom operating an immense, worldwide system like Blogger and keeping it running smoothly, and so I give them credit.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I can't compare them, because I've only ever been on WordPress, but just wanted to say that if you had a WordPress blog, you wouldn't have blanks to fill in.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I'd feel as though I'd been unfaithful if I left Blogger, even though it is a fickle lover at times.

    ReplyDelete
  36. This made me laugh. I'd just written my first post after my longest blogging hiatus ever, and blink, it disappeared, with lovely comments, into cyberspace. So my post announcing my blogging break was still the last one up. The "resuming" post came back...but those comments? Gone. Worst is, my comments come to me via email too and I should have been able to read them there, but my box was getting full so I deleted those thinking, no worries, I'll read them on blogger. Technology...it's love hate all the way.

  37. I think Blogger has a love/hate relationship with everyone, but I'm with you. I thought my blog had disappeared when it crashed last week! I like the freedom of Word Press, but like you, I'm not a fan of filling in so many blanks. I feel like I'm applying for a mortgage or something.
