Love Affair with Paper

Yes, so I'm a compulsive journal writer. I used to buy the nice, bound journals but economically they weren't feasible since I would go through one in less than three months. Then I came up with this idea to use the piles of scratch paper my husband collected through his business. He knows about my love affair with paper, so he has always been very good about saving it for me.

As you can see, all that's needed is a hole punch, the paper blank on one side and a massive 3- ring binder. And of course a free hour to punch holes in all that delicious paper.

Voila-- my new journal!

This one should last me about a year. I can't wait until tomorrow morning when I start writing in it!

  1. A fabulous way to recycle and fulfill the need... I am a bit compulsive about my supplies as well.

You might think that Bear has a love affair with paper and pens (especislly fountain pens). If you thought that, you would be correct.

  3. My wife has something of an obsession with office stationery. Me, I'm very likely to buy a notebook or journal because of a nice cover, then end up never using it...

  5. Great idea! I've always used that paper for the kids, since they did so many drawings. But now they're growing up....

  6. Great idea. The only downside of my hubby's retirement is ... no more "free office supplies", so we don't have scrap paper around like we used to, but I do have a virtual mountain of spiral bound notebooks.

  7. What a great idea! But I'm amazed you can write that much longhand. Anymore, I get writer's cramp after about three pages.

  8. I don't journal, but I do write my first drafts by hand. I love back-to-school time because I get to stock up on twenty-cent spiral notebooks. I go though six or seven of them per project. Recycling is a great idea, though.

  9. I do love the journals. This is a great idea.

School supplies pull me in every year and I always end up buying notebooks and then I feel guilty, BECAUSE I LOVE PAPER, TOO.

I gave some away to my grandchildren yesterday. They weren't as excited as I was.

  11. Wow - that's a lot of paper! Must admit I use the smallest notebook I can and get it all onto computer ASAP!

  12. PS: There once was a journal magazine but it didn't last long. Had some neat stuff in it.

  13. I'm a big paper fan and always will be! Used to love buying new paper pads and pens when the new school term started :o)

  14. Good for you, and it's re-using too, which is good for the environment!
I love paper too, in that I love stationery shops! Always buy stuff for card-making when I'm in them. You should see the stash I have! Not so efficient about actually making the cards, or sending them! Dreams, dreams!

  15. How fun... I LOVE THE NEW GIRAFFE!

I am a strange journal collector. I have dozens of them and never wrote int them.... Odd isn't it. I just love the many variations and bindings them come in.

  16. I love paper. I love to smell it and I hoard it too. I have a few very pretty bound journals but I can't get myself to write in them so I too am much better off with recycled paper.

  17. Your love of paper just reinforces my theory that electronic books will never totally dominate the market.(:

I used to journal but now that I'm working on my novel, most of my time is devoted to that.

BTW, love the journal idea. It's a great way to recycle and help the environment.

  18. I love this idea of recycling scratch paper to make a journal.

I have tried to journal--and I stick with it for about a month but then it becomes one of the things I have to drop from my busy schedule. So I have stopped buying the really nice journals because I never seem to use them all the way through.

Do you find yourself going back to re-read your journals?

  21. Your new journal looks like my new recipe binder! I, too, took loads of one-side-used paper from my parents' office and printed the recipes on the other side.
    (Great minds think alike...)
Thank you for your comment on my post. Where is your mom from in Nebraska? I am from a small village just north of Kansas in the southeast corner.
Also, I've recently started another blog about my new love of cooking, if you would like to check it out. I am doing a link list on that page, and would be proud to represent the home state! I can put links to either one or both your blogs, whichever you prefer. Let me know if you are interested!

  22. I am definitely a paper person, although now with most of my writing done on a computer I haven't started many new notebooks. But I do have tons of paper in my office, garage, and elsewhere. My wife would love to throw a lot of it away, but she let's it be for my sake.

  25. This is so nice!!! What a clever idea. I'm not a great at journaling but I do use a lot of notebooks for outlining each novel. It takes a lot of work with character ARCs, chapter set-ups, synopsis rewrites, the words. So helpful!

  28. What a great idea! I used to have journals all over the place. Unfortunately, they were lost quite a while ago. I would give a lot to have the really old ones back.
