Sometimes I don't want to do anything

I think I'm spoiled from having other people writing my blog posts lately. Guest bloggers are awesome! The posts are entertaining, informative, interesting and written by someone else. I hope you enjoyed the visitors-- Nicki Elson, L.A. DeVaul and Roxanne, Elliot Grace, Jim Bronyaur and Anne R. Allen. Thank you all for making things fun and interesting here for awhile!

And now I'm spoiled and don't want to do anything.

My husband and I have a small local cookie business. Twice a week I make the cookies and he delivers them. It's a refreshing change of pace from the intense mental exercise that comes from writing my own work and editing others.

And sometimes I just like to do absolutely nothing but gaze lovingly at my cookies laid out to cool on the table or counter.

These are white chocolate chunk macadamia nut. My absolute favorite. *mouth is watering*

  3. Yeah too bad all I can do is look at them, can't eat them right now....Besides, these were for sale and there were no extras :)

  5. That one on the end is kind of misshapen. I think you should let me eat it.

  9. You've got great willpower if you can look at those delicious cookies and not eat even one, lol.

I can completely relate to that not wanting to do anything feeling. Our lives get so crazy busy though that we deserve a day off once in a while. Have a great weekend, Karen!

  11. It may well be the quietness and repetitive serenity of making those cookies that allows you to write - a fine contrast between transient nurturing and the lasting aspirations of words on paper. They look very tasty!

  12. Those are one of my favorites, too! I'm with Javid, do you do international deliveries? =)

  13. Me too! I like this business you've got going - such a great contrast. Mine is too much the same - I listen to my therapy clients tell me stories - then I write stories (and no, I don't use theirs ;) )
These days I just want to be in the glorious autumn and creating nice meals...and talking to my chickens.

  14. When, oh when, are computers going to have Taste'O'Vision? THey look delicious!

  15. Oh my goodness, those look delicious. And I totally understand the urge to not do anything.

  16. Oh you have to make a batch for yourself every now and then!

  17. I can't remember the last time I did nothing all day. Every time I even think about it my muse clears her throat and reminds me of my blog commitments and my revisions and my plotting and...you get the idea :)

btw those cookies look yummy :)

  18. Karen, you are a bad, bad, BAD girl for showing us those cookies. It's Sunday morning here in la la land, and my mouth is watering for some white chocolate macadamia.

Doing nothing...sometimes it's just what we need!

  19. The dreaded procrastination/I found something quite productive that has nothing to do with writing bug.

That bugger bites me all the time.

Then again, I never make cookies that good looking in my procrastination phase

  20. I thought that these were gooey butter cookies, but they still look good none the less.

  21. Those cookies look great! My wife and a friend of ours are planning to spend a whole day baking this week.

I've been told it'll fall to me to make sure everything gets eaten. The hardships of married life, eh? :-D

  22. Those are my absolute favorite, too. I think I'd like making cookies if our kitchen was bigger than a postage stamp. Definitely nice to have a little something to mix it up now and again, though.

  23. Oh my! Those look positively scrumptious. Yum.

Okay, I'm blaming you for the drool on my keyboard.

  24. Linda, Are you sure you want to blame the cookies? I think it might be that little visit you took this weekend :)

Hart, I would make cookies even if I lived in a trailer! But not for sale, only little batches for myself hehe.

Paul, Poor you having to eat all the goodies!

  25. This is so funny. I have a blog post waiting in my "prescheduled" file with a similar theme. So far I haven't felt the need to use it, but it's there in case I don't feel like posting anything else. I've been trying to have a guest post almost every week.
Now I wish I had some of those cookies.

  26. I want those cookies! I tried to take one, but my hand hit the screen, LOL. Sometimes it's good to just do nothing :) Enjoy it while it lasts.

  28. Those cookies look YUMMY!!!!!!

  29. We all need some "do nothing" time. Julia Cameron called it "filling the creativity well." I'm envying anybody who can carve out some do nothing time right about now. Two books to promote and two more in revision hell is too much.

Thanks so much for inviting me visit your great blog!

  30. You wha???? How far away from me do you live? What a wonderful idea! And I just love white chocolate macadamia - just ordered a tun from a colleague who's child is doing a fundraiser. Yum yum yum!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Oh those look delicious! I love my "do nothing" time, as well. Which is also in the kitchen!

  32. Those cookies look SO good. Yum!

  33. I can almost smell those cookies! Mmmmm.

Sometimes I don't want to do anything either. It's good for a writer to keep the writing pace I think. ;)

  34. Those look delish. I always pick that kind when we go to Mrs. Fields. Mm. Mm.

  35. Those cookies look delicious and I'm impressed that you do it commercially. I'm about to try some orange crisp cookies just for fun. If they work I might post a picture up to prove I've done it.

  36. Oh. Give me one of those piping hot cookies! That look wonderful - I can smell them from here!

  37. These are my favorite cookies, too.

I know what you mean: sometimes it is nice just to cook and do something with my hands. It's the only activity in which I can concoct something semi-decent with my fingertips. (I can't sew, I can't draw, I can't paint. My poor kids have to ask their dad.)

  38. Karen, this qualifies as torture. I can't even SMELL them!
