Downsizing Like a Rock Star

Years ago I read an article about a couple who, after the kids had grown and moved out, downsized from the large family home in the suburbs to a one bedroom apartment in the city. They gave away or sold nearly everything they owned, including their car. When they wanted to travel, they took a taxi to the airport.

I remember feeling so envious of the unknown couple and deep inside, my desire to downsize like this took root. When the opportunity came for us to move to Guatemala and embrace the expat life, it didn’t take long to say YES!  (read more here)

  1. Ah, getting rid of all the baggage we have accumulated and starting anew is a dream most of us have had at one time or another. I applaud you.

  2. Karen, what great news! I love downsizing and did it before moving up here to the canyon and I am continuing the project here too. We have no kids, so I don't need to think about leaving anything behind. Hubby on the other hand has a bit of a hoarder problem, we may end up with nothing but his stuff. I think it is just wonderful that you are moving to G. and I'm so looking forward to reading about your new life there.

  4. Rock Star? Downsizing? Isn't that an oxymoron?

    Well, regardless, have fun!

    Blessings and Bear hugs!

  6. How do we collect all "this stuff" anyway. Oh Dear, I cleaned my Mom's house just after Dad passed away for she was moving into a lovely apartment in busy uptown district which overlooked the city. It was a nice place and when we started to clean out the house, my oh my the things we found - you know those "saving for a rainy day" type things or "I'll put that away to wear in case I have to go to hospital" type things. Hope you got all "your things" sorted and happy new life - so exciting - this is your next adventure in this chapter of your life Karen - Perhaps beginning a new story? Cheers, Lilly
