Life in Guatemala A to Z: Emree

See this baby?
Her name is Emree, and she is now 18 months old and living in Guatemala with her mom and dad. Emree rides in style in a stroller/cart that easily moves over the cobblestone streets while providing a lot of storage for shopping trips.

Emree is learning Spanish along with English, which although it's delayed her language skills should benefit her in the long run as she becomes fluent in both languages.

It's a whole lot of fun sharing our Guatemala experience with Emree!

  7. Emree is a cutie. In terms of her learning both languages, she'll do well. Kids are so quick, they put adults to shame in learning new skills.

  8. I just read that kids who grow up bilingual have more connections in their brains and are better learners in the long run.

    1. Susan, Oh no, not that Emree needs more opportunities to be smart and sure of herself LOL.

  9. She is beautiful! I am looking forward to my granddaughter at that age. It is so exciting to be close enough and to watch her learn new things. I will also be teaching her english :)

  10. Emree is so cute! And it's good that she's learning Spanish now; it's easier for kids to learn languages than it is for adults. And that's actually going to make her a marketable job candidate as well when she grows up, because a lot of employers favor bilingual employees. (You know me; I see everything in terms of work.)

  11. How adorable! I'm kind of jealous that she is learning two languages at once. I'm sure it will come in handy all throughout her life.

  12. Emree is adorable, and Guatemala sounds a whole lot better at this time of the year than where I live near Niagara Falls. Windchill today is -4C

  13. Emree looks adorable. I'm so jealous that you get to live in Guatemala. My dad lives in Thailand now. These are excellent and affordable places to retire!

  14. What a cutie! I learned two languages by the age of two. One slipped away, for lack of use, though I still understand it. I think being bi or tri lingual helps all learning and how great to be fluent in English and Spanish.

  15. Emree is adorable.... (love her shoes in the last pic - how come they don't make cute shoes like that for grown-ups with feet the size of salmon planks?)

Everytime I visit your blog site, I want to take time to sit on your lanai. It looks so quiet, cool, and relaxing.

  21. She is adorable and it won't be long before she will be fluent the two most important languages in the world. I read your post about the dogs also and found it interesting that the street dogs are so mellow. Since they are all over the world, I think we can only hope many of them live happy, if shorter lives, than our pets. And that they find enough food to sustain them.

  22. So cute! I love those little cheeks! She's a lucky little girl to start up right way with two languages.

  23. She is adorable :) My brother lives in France and his children are bilingual - in fact one of my nephews now speaks a third language and I'm sure it's because of being introduced to different sounds when he was young :)

  25. Too cute!! I've always wondered how people teach toddlers to speak two languages. It would be so confusing to me!
