Am I on Vacation or What?

My sister came to visit last week and we had a fabulous time. I showed her around, we walked and walked and walked, she took loads of memorable pictures.

Half way through our holiday together I realized what my theme will be for the A to Z Challenge!

Last year it was Living in Guatemala. Yesterday marked the one year anniversary of when my husband and I arrived at the Guatemala City airport, carrying all our worldly possessions in our luggage. This is us-- the day after we got to Panajachel--looking tired but happy. We had made it! Let the adventure begin!

We had a lot of family visit during the year, giving me the ideal theme for this year's Challenge:

Visiting Guatemala

It is super fun when family visits and we get to see things through their eyes. It's great to show them around and share in their discovery of this amazing land. Like seeing my sister taste a licuado for the first time!

Haha, I love this shot!

  1. It's always nice to have family visit especially when you don't have them over much.

And it's true what you said about seeing things through their eyes. It gives you a new appreciation about where you live.

  2. I agree it is so nice to spend time with your family when you don't see them very often. It is so much fun showing your family or friends the sights and sounds of your surroundings....It's like seeing it through a child's eyes again.

    1. Suzie, The licuados are so amazing. My favorite is pineapple with milk.

  4. It might be because we are going through winter and all the bad weather that it may bring, but looking at your pictures, I sure wish I was in a tropical paradise right now.

It must be extra special when family comes to visit and they can't stop smiling.

  6. Sort of like a permanent vacation? Do you even need a vacation from your vacation?

    1. Mirka, Yes, when I miss Costco! The simplicity is wonderful but sometimes I want to just get in a car and drive to the mall. Needless to say, we spend a lot less living here.

    2. I'm headed to Costco NOW. I'll think of you.

    3. I have decided that I need to take some anti-anxiety pills before I go to CostCo next time. That, or stay at home entirely.

  12. That is a great theme and that drink looks great..is there rum in that??:) We live so close to the Falls that it is old hat to me but when friends and family visit they are awestruck by it and I forget how majestic the falls actually are

    1. Birgit, No rum or alcohol in the licuados. My sister says it tastes like a pina colada only without the alcohol.

  14. What language is spoken? Can you speak it? Will you learn it? What is the recipe for that drink?

    1. Susan, It's Spanish and I can speak roughly but hope to be fluent after a couple more years. The drink is fruit, water or milk, sugar and ice blended smooth in a blender. I think anyone could make it if you have fresh fruit, a blender, and know the right combinations of ingredients. It's always served in a fancy glass like that.

  18. Hi Karen. It's lovely to show people around your turf. You all look so happy. Love the shots. Your A-Z should be great.
Read your previous post about blogging too. Interesting that blogger wasn't mentioned as I'm sure it'd be the biggest. (Personally I have 3 WordPress blogs but I never use them--too complicated for me!) But I agree. I'd feel a huge loss if I wasn't blogging and interacting with bloggers, some of whom I count as real friends I hope to visit someday.

    Denise :-)
