Okay, I know I promised you the winners today, but Allie needs just a few more days to decide for sure on the Top Three, the ones in which a full manuscript will be requested and reviewed. Suspense is building!!
Today, I give you the TOP TEN submissions, listed in alphabetical order:
BREATHE by Lori Johnson
CODE NAME O.W.L.S by Micki Street
DARK FOREST by Jennie Bailey
GLOW by MarcyKate Connelly
HATSHEPSUT: FEMALE PHAROAH by Stephanie Thornton
I'M HERE TO SAVE YOUR DAY: THE ADVENTURES OF BO WOLF by Jared Larsen
THE KENNEDY RENAISSANCE by Jennifer Soehnlin
THE SHOLES KEY by Clarissa Draper
WARRIOR- MONKS by Matthew M. Rush
WE WHO ARE GODS by Jaimie Teekell
Allie, WiDo Publishing's acquisition editor, chose these ten out of nearly 100 entries because they had elements in their opening chapters that made them stand out and be noticed-- like a strong pleasing voice, intriguing plot idea, engaging writing style, likable well-drawn main characters-- to name a few of the qualities that will make a manuscript appeal to her and want to see more.
Congratulations to these ten very talented authors for stand-out submissions! The three VERY BEST, the WINNERS, will be revealed next week, I promise!
Congrats to everyone who submitted, that's a huge step, and awesome congrats to those ten who are at the top! Good luck!
ReplyDeleteI am so happy to see Stephanie Thornton and Matthew on that list!! Congrats to everyone. :-)
ReplyDeleteGo Clarissa and Matthew!!
ReplyDeletetotally awesome! I recognize Clarissa's name, and I know Matt--congrats to you guys and all the rest! :o)
ReplyDeleteWow- this just made my morning! Congrats to everyone on the list!
ReplyDeleteAnd thanks again for a fabulous contest, Karen & Allie!
Congragulations to the top ten. They all sound like interesting reads. Good luck all!
ReplyDeleteCongrats to those lucky 10 - proud to see new talent shining through.
ReplyDeleteWill the reviews for the unlucky losers (such as myself) be 4-6 weeks? I think that's what you said in previous post?
Congratulations to the top 10. Can't wait to see who the winners are. Great contest.

Thoughts in Progress
Right now I want to say something lame like "You're all winners!" But really, entering a contest like this took a winning attitude. And good thing Allie was the judge not me, because I love you all and couldn't have narrowed it down. However, I'll be assisting with the reviews. 4-6 weeks will be the longest. It may be much faster depending on schedules.
ReplyDeleteCongrats, everyone! Thank you, Allie, for taking time out of your schedule to go through those 100s of pages. And Karen, I know you're going to be doing a lot of work for the three winners, thanks.
ReplyDeleteRecently, I started doing chapter reviews and many have said that they felt extremely vulnerable putting their work out there and I know that's how I felt when I entered the contest. I seriously had a moment where I felt ill. I know I have the book on another site but it scares me every time someone reads my work... Will they like it?
I feel so honored that you picked my chapters and I want to congratulate everyone else too. I hope we get to read the chapters that were submitted because I'm sure all of the entries were fantastic. I'm glad I didn't have to narrow it down to ten. Even if I don't get chosen for the top three. I'm extremely proud today.

I can't stop laughing -- Jared Larsen and MarcyKate Connelly are my picks to win the Adventures in Children's Publishing Pitch-to-Query Contest, so I'm not surprised at all to see them both final elsewhere. They'd both better find agents soon. :)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to everyone! Well done :)
ReplyDeleteSo exciting to see 4 friends on the list - looking forward to seeing the winners :)
ReplyDeleteI'm happy to see some blogger friends on the list - Clarissa and Matthew. This is Matthew's second mention lately. I'm sure he'll have a book contract in no time.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to the top ten!
ReplyDeleteWow, seeing this just made my day! Thank you so much for running this contest, Karen & Allie - what a wonderful opportunity!
ReplyDeleteBest of luck to the others in the top 10!
Very exciting! Congrats everyone who made it into top ten. I don't envy the editors narrowing it down to three...
ReplyDeleteYay for these winners! And thanks Karen and Allie for doing this contest. It's such a great opportunity.
ReplyDeleteCongrats everyone! Wow, what an interesting bunch of titles! (I'm rooting for ya Matthew ;o)
ReplyDeleteI left a comment but, I don't see it so I'll repost. Just wanted to say congrats to the top ten!
ReplyDeleteCongrats to the top ten!
ReplyDeleteYes indeed, what an accomplishment. Congratulations to the top ten. Good luck.
ReplyDeleteOh, yay! Congrats to the finalists! Good luck narrowing down the three. :o)
ReplyDeletethat is so awesome! can't wait to see who wins!
ReplyDeleteThat's fantastic! It's so great to see some names there that I recognise! Congrats everyone. I can't wait to see who wins!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, all!

Congrats!! To catch an editor's eye is amazing. :)
ReplyDeleteOMG I was out of town and totally missed this! Thanks so much Karen. The only bad news is that I'm in the middle of a re-write and don't have a full ready. Dang! I thought the grand prize was a three chapter critique (which of course I do have ready). Please disqualify me if that is going to be a problem because I don't want to ruin it for anyone else.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry if I misunderstood the rules!
Somehow I missed this! I only noticed the top 3 winners, although I got the great email from Allie. Thanks so much, Karen and Allie, for this contest. It was so encouraging and helpful.
