Hand-knit Yumminess

For a knitter, nothing is more satisfying than seeing loved ones wearing the items you made for them. I'm a scattered knitter. Some years I don't do anything but the occasional scarf, other times I'll knit up a storm and try new yarns and more complex patterns.

This is my youngest grandchild, wearing a sweater I made for his older brother a few years ago, using self-striping yarn. It was fun! But not as much fun as getting this picture sent to me by his mom. Along with the sweater, he's wearing the hat I made him for Christmas. Hand-knit yumminess is so good for the soul!

  1. I also knit. And years ago I decided I wouldn't knit anything I didn't like. So - no school cardigans, no cricket jumpers. Rather I played with texture and colour - not always successfully, but it was always fun!

  2. I always get a flutter when I see the grandkids wearing things that are being passed along to the newest. To have the new and the loved all together...so sweet.

  5. Kitty, Ah yes the self-striping yarn is magical! Those lovely stripes just appeared as if by magic as I knit. It made the project very fun to do.

Deniz, I have a hard time visualizing that term applied to you!

Stephanie V, Very well said! What's funny is I had just barely been thinking about this sweater. I had made two of them, for this little guy's older brothers when they were about this age, and I had wondered how they held up. Then this photo came and I was thrilled to see it getting new life on another beloved little boy.

  6. That's awesome. My wife is quite the knitter too. She's doing a hoodie right now that is looking amazing.

    Great picture.

  7. Aww, thanks Karen. But just look how many months I've taken to even get halfway on knitting a pair of kilt hose...

  8. The hat and the sweater are both very charming, and he looks utterly cared for as he wears them.

  10. Mise, Mise, "utterly cared for"-- that's it! That explains why children look so darling in hand-knit items! You don't get that look from Wal-mart.

  11. What a cutie he is. And what a talented grandma!

I tried to register for the A-Z Challenge, but I understand that doesn't start until the end of the month. So I'm standing in line! Waiting. Not so patiently.

A is for aardvark; z is for zoonitic infection? Um, well, whatever. Far away but soon enough the challenge comes.

  14. Awww, so adorable! My mother taught to how to knit when I was young...or should I say "attempted" to teach me. I never got the hang of it. Somehow my rows were always ziggy-zaggy. I didn't then, nor do I now, have patience for that sort of thing. Guess I'm a writer and a talker! :)

  17. Too cute! I'm always amazed at knitters and crocheters. My mom crochets like mad.... my kids love their homemade blankets and come to her with their own designs and colors to have items made. So funny!

  21. He's cuteness personified!
I'm like you with regard to knitting, fits and starts, then nothing in between! I'm at the "nothing in between" stage for quite a while now!
